Chris Gore's Info - The Unofficial X Show Website

Chris Gore

CHRIS GORE has built a solid reputation as the hilariously honest, down-to-earth creator and editor of Film Threat (www.filmthreat.com). Chris created Film Threat as a college fanzine in Detroit in 1985. As the fanzine evolved into a respected national magazine, he relocated to Los Angeles in 1989. The magazine became famous for covering cult films, midnight movies, underground shorts and, before a market even emerged, independent films like Spike Lee's She's Gotta Have It, Jim Jarmusch's Stranger Than Paradise and Quentin Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs. The print magazine was retired in 1997 when it was relaunched as a web site. Film Threat.com is now one of the most popular and respected indie movie sites on the net with over 150,000 weekly readers generating 2.5 million hits a month.

Chris Gore attended his first film festival at the age of twelve and has been to over 100 since. He has been a judge at festivals such as Athens, Austin, Edmonds, Florida, Slamdance, and the USA Film Festival as well as a featured speaker. His passion for festivals led to his first book, "The Ultimate Film Festival Survival Guide" (1999, Lone Eagle). This indispensable guide has been called "the bible" for film festivals and has been adopted as required reading for major film programs across the country. The book is now the leading title in its category with a second edition just released for 2001. Gore is also the author of a book about unproduced screenplays called "The 50 Greatest Movies Never Made" for St. Martin's Press.

Chris is a movie reviewer for "The X Show" airing weeknights on cable's FX Network. He was the host of "The New Movie Show with Chris Gore" a kind of "Politically Incorrect" for film that ran for 22 episodes on FX. Chris Gore has also been featured on television shows such as MTV's Big Picture, CNN, The Cartoon Network, The Sci-Fi Channel, American Journal, Premiere Story, Geraldo, Split Screen, and the E! True Hollywood Story, among others. He has also hosted the DVD Festival Awards for the VSDA and is a regular radio commentator on movies for stations across the country.

Chris is also busy as the editor-at-large for Total Movie Magazine, where he writes a monthly column called "The Gorey Details" on topics ranging from "Are Today's Action Stars Wusses?" to "Do Trailers Ruin Movies?" to "Movie Nudity." His opinionated column has helped Chris further his reputation as an outspoken voice in the film community.

Chris has been called everything from "an easier to relate to Roger Ebert, free of the celebrity status and preachiness..." to "...the Gen-X Leonard Maltin" to the "pit bull of journalism." He was also named one of LA's 50 Most Interesting People by Los Angeles magazine.
