Jon Ernst

Talented and charismatic singer-songwriter Jon Ernst rocks as The X Show's musical director. Basically a one-man band with assorted guitars, keyboards and electronic gear at his fingertips, Jon provides music cues "on the fly" throughout the show and has composed the main title theme.

Previously, Jon was musical director and on-air "Pianoboy" of MTV's international hit game show Singled Out. Jon has since segued over to MTV's sister channel VH1, where he is a primary composer on the top-rated Behind the Music series.

Jon has also been musical director/composer on the syndicated Peer Pressure and Outrageous for the Fox Family Channel. His additional composing credits for TV include Baywatch, Boy Meets World (ABC) and TV's Greatest Commercials of All Time (TV Land), as well as the independent film George's Auto.

Born in Chicago, Jon began his singing career at age 5. "My first performance was in kindergarten," he recalls. "I was the only kid with the balls to belt out `Puff the Magic Dragon.' "

After studying at Boston's renowned Berklee College of Music, Jon paid his way through the University of Florida by keeping his tip jar full at regular piano bar gigs. In fact, this source of income was to pay the rent for many years to come. "Playing in piano bars, you get to know the standards," Jon says. "I can play 'em all."

In June 1995, Jon performed at the White Knights Festival in St. Petersburg, Russia - the largest cultural festival in all of Russia and eastern Europe. The event drew a record-breaking crowd of 300,000, while the TV audience exceeded 10 million viewers worldwide.

Jon has graced the L.A. club scene with his live performances for several years, having played such noted venues as the House of Blues, the Troubadour, Luna Park, the Martini Lounge and Largo. He is currently fronting a four-piece band, and his occasional solo shows are spellbinding.
